Work through the SEO checklist

SEO Checklist provides a to-do list of SEO-related tasks and tools that improve your site’s visibility. This page shows how the checklist works; the pages that follow explain each group of items in plain language so you can decide which actions to take.

The checklist’s pre-completed items saved with a date, and a working rhythm for completing and recording the rest.

Go to Configuration → Search and metadata → SEO Checklist/admin/config/search/seo-checklist. The page shows a progress bar and checklist items grouped by topic, starting with Clean URLs. Each item has a toggle switch plus links to install or configure the module it involves.

When you install the SEO Tools add-on, certain items complete automatically. They arrive toggled on, but the form is only temporarily saved, so your first action is to review and save them.

  1. In each group, take note of the items that are toggled on. The system completed these when Drupal CMS was installed and when you added SEO Tools; a status message confirms that previously completed items have been checked.
  2. Select Save to record them. Each recorded item now shows the date it was completed and the user who saved the form.
  • Items that involve installing a module toggle on automatically once the module is installed.
  • Toggle other items on manually after you complete the recommended action, for example after configuring a module’s settings, then save the form to record your progress.

The rest of this guide walks each group:

  1. Clean URLs
  2. Meta tags
  3. Submit your site to search engines
  4. On-page SEO
  5. Optimize performance and mobile experience
  6. Security and performance checks
  • The progress bar reflects the items you saved.
  • Each completed item shows a note with the completion date and the user who saved it.
  • Reset your progress: next to Save is a Clear saved progress button. Clearing turns off every item that a user toggled on manually. Items completed by the system, such as modules already installed, stay toggled on, and the same initial message about saving the form appears. Select Save to record the system-completed items again.
