On-page SEO

On-page SEO optimizes individual pages of your website for maximum visibility and engagement. This page walks the in-page optimization group of the SEO checklist: Real-time SEO analysis on the editing form, and the revision tools that let you track how content changes affect results.

Real-time SEO analysis available on the content types you publish, and revisions set up so you can compare content changes over time.

Open the checklist at Configuration → Search and metadata → SEO Checklist/admin/config/search/seo-checklist and work down the in-page optimization group.

Drupal CMS installed and enabled Real-time SEO for Drupal with the SEO Tools add-on, so this item is already complete. The module helps you optimize your content naturally around keywords. Edit a content item and look under the SEO optimization section of the editing form to explore its features.

Real-time SEO is configured by default for the built-in content types. To change which content types are evaluated for SEO best practices, use the item’s Configure link or go to Configuration → Search and metadata → Real-time SEO for Drupal/admin/config/yoast_seo.

Content types you add after installing SEO Tools get the SEO Information fields, including the analysis field, automatically.

Revisions are enabled by default for the built-in content types. Creating a new revision on every save lets you track SEO performance changes effectively. To check a content type:

  1. Go to Structure → Content types/admin/structure/types.
  2. Select Edit from the Operations drop-down.
  3. Scroll down to Publishing options and ensure Create new revision is checked.

The Diff module is not installed by default. It shows exactly what changed between two revisions, which turns your revision history into a record of which edits helped or hurt. Download and install the Diff module.

Diff arrives configured with default settings that control how changes between content revisions are displayed. To adjust them, use the item’s Configure link or go to Configuration → Content authoring → Diff/admin/config/content/diff/general.

  • Edit any content item: the SEO optimization section appears on the editing form, and entering a Focus keyword produces an analysis.
  • The in-page optimization group of the checklist shows the Real-time SEO and Diff items toggled on, with your saved date.
